Whistleblower Protection

The Whistleblower Protection Act entered into force on July 2, 2023, in order to protect whistleblowers who provide information on violations of laws and rules within businesses and authorities from retaliation.

If you have acquired information from someone associated with JGU about violations within the context of your work or in the lead-up to your work and are considering submitting a report so that appropriate measures can be taken, please contact

JGU’s internal reporting office (see accompanying contact information).

We recommend contacting this internal reporting office before any other reporting offices so that we can investigate and shut down any violations as quickly as possible.

Reports and information can be submitted online, by post, by phone, or in person. Please use the following email address for submitting reports online:

meldestelle@uni-mainz.de.

Your report will be processed confidentially and in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation. However, certain legal requirements may oblige us to share your identity with other authorities. This may concern requests by law enforcement authorities in criminal proceedings, orders in administrative proceedings subsequent to a report – including administrative fine proceedings – as well as court decisions. Information can also be submitted anonymously. However, please be aware that if you do not provide any contact details, we will not be able to contact you during the process with any questions or, if applicable, inform you of the outcome of our investigation. The Whistleblower Protection Act does not apply to information about personal misconduct.

The Federal Office of Justice has established its own external reporting office; the website for the Federal Office of Justice https://www.bundesjustizamt.de/DE/MeldestelledesBundes/MeldestelledesBundes_node.html has more information (in German) about whistleblower protection, which also applies to JGU’s internal reporting office.

The Ministry for Science and Health of Rhineland-Palatinate (MWG) also has a central internal reporting office. It can be reached at
